Director of Development

Job summary: The Development Director will be responsible for creating and planning the development strategy for Mount Vernon Academy. Reporting to the Principal and working in collaboration with the Business Manager, the Development Director will be responsible for achieving the school’s fundraising goals and engaging sponsors in ongoing service activities. This includes leveraging key relationships and contacts within and outside of the stakeholder base of the Alumni and the Ohio Conference to ensure meeting revenue targets.

Essential duties and responsibilities: • Create and implement annual development plan and strategy
• Create and implement a capital campaign strategy to fund strategic projects
• Lead and manage the site’s overall development efforts to raise an annual budget of $300,000
• Train and lead other staff to support fundraising and marketing efforts
• Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential corporate & foundation sponsors, Alumni, and individual donors
• Manage the MVA Alumni program, which includes identifying and securing Class Agents, publication of quarterly news letters, creating a collaborative relationship with the Alumni Board, and hosting the annual Alumni Events
• Develop and market new Planned Giving Program
• Develop and implement comprehensive marketing and public relations strategy
• Train and coach the MVA Board in the art and leadership of philanthropy

Education: Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent prior experience. Understanding of fundraising and non-profit religious education a plus.

Skills: • 5-10 years of fundraising experience with a non-profit is a plus
• Proven track record of achieving fundraising targets of over $300,000 annually a plus
• Proven management and leadership capabilities
• Proven record of recruiting, training, motivating, and thanking volunteers
• High energy, positive, “can-do” attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail; high degree of initiative.
• Strong verbal communications skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically and lead others in developing and implementing SMART Action Plans
• Demonstrated ability and comfort in visiting donors and asking for donations in person
• Strong partnership-building and event planning skills
• Good computer skills and knowledge of eTapestry and Excel data base programs
